Thank you for trusting The Learning Bull with your time and attention. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we use and share information, and the choices you have. It applies to our websites, newsletters, data tools, and research products. For background on who we are and why we publish, see About. Your use of our services is also governed by our Terms of Use and the principles described in our Transparency Center. For limits on reliance and risk, review our Disclaimer.

Who we are and how to reach us

The Learning Bull is a Canadian publisher focused on personal finance, markets, and data-driven journalism. Questions about privacy can be sent to privacy@learningbull.ca or through Contact. Partners with questions about how we safeguard audience data in campaigns can start on Advertise with The Learning Bull.

The information we collect

We collect information in three ways.

  1. Information you provide
Examples include your email when you subscribe to a newsletter, your name and contact details if you create an account, messages you send to our editors, and files or links you choose to share.
  2. Information collected automatically
We log technical data to keep the site working well and secure. This may include IP address, browser type, device and operating system, pages viewed, time on page, referring URLs, general location inferred from IP, and interactions with features such as watch lists, tickers, or filters.
  3. Information from service providers
Vendors may supply deliverability reports, aggregated analytics, fraud-prevention signals, and payment confirmations for premium products. We require them to act on our instructions and protect your information.

We do not seek sensitive personal identifiers such as social insurance numbers or precise geolocation. If you choose to share something sensitive, we handle it with care and delete it when it is no longer needed.

Why we use information and our lawful bases

We use personal information to deliver and improve the service.

  • To operate the site, newsletters, alerts, data tools, and account features
  • To maintain security, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot issues
  • To measure performance so pages load quickly and content remains relevant
  • To personalize content and email selections when you opt in
  • To communicate with you about updates, features, surveys, or policy changes
  • To comply with Canadian laws and respond to lawful requests

Where the law requires it, we rely on your consent, such as for marketing emails or non-essential cookies. We rely on legitimate interests for activities such as maintaining security and producing aggregated analytics. When a contract exists, we process information to meet that contract.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies help us keep you signed in, remember preferences, understand feature usage, and improve performance. You can control cookies through your browser and, where applicable, through our on-site consent tools. Blocking some cookies may limit features.

Our Cookie and Tracking approach covers:

  • Types of cookies used, including essential, performance, and analytics
  • Retention periods and refresh rules
  • When third parties set or read cookies and how we limit their access

Analytics, measurement, and advertising

We use privacy-focused analytics to see what is useful and what needs work. From time to time, we engage reputable analytics or advertising partners to measure campaign performance, cap frequency, or reach readers who asked to hear from us. Partners must follow our instructions and cannot use the data for their own purposes. If a partner sets cookies or reads device identifiers, we ask for consent where required.

Email communications and your choices

If you subscribe to newsletters or alerts, we send messages that match your selection. Every message includes an unsubscribe link that works on the first click. You can also adjust topics and frequency in Reader Services. We follow Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation for commercial electronic messages.

When we share information

We share personal information only in limited situations.

  • With service providers that host our sites and databases, send emails, operate support, process payments, or perform analytics. They receive only what is needed and must protect it.
  • For legal reasons when we believe disclosure is required to comply with the law or to protect the rights, privacy, safety, or property of our users and company.
  • In a business transaction such as a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of assets. We continue to protect your information and notify you if control changes in a way that affects your rights.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing.

Affiliate, sponsored, and partner disclosures

Some articles include links to products or services. If you click and take an action, we may receive a referral fee. When compensation exists, we label it clearly. Sponsored work is labeled at the top of the page and in the byline area. Editorial teams operate independently and partners do not influence conclusions. Labeling practices and partner standards are detailed in our Transparency Center.

Security

We protect personal information with administrative, technical, and physical safeguards. Examples include encryption in transit, access controls, least-privilege practices, and regular software updates. No method is perfectly secure. We monitor for vulnerabilities and improve controls over time.

Breach notice process

If an incident affects personal information, we act quickly. Our response includes containing the issue, assessing harm, notifying affected individuals and regulators where required, and documenting improvements to prevent recurrence.

International transfers

We are based in Canada, but some providers store or process data in other countries, including the United States. When information leaves Canada, it becomes subject to the laws of the destination country. We select reputable providers that commit to strong privacy and security standards and we use contracts that limit how suppliers handle personal information.

Retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described here or as required by law. The period depends on the type of information and how it is used. We delete or anonymize information when it is no longer necessary.

Your rights under PIPEDA and Québec Law 25

Your rights depend on where you live. In Canada, you generally have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, request corrections if it is inaccurate, and withdraw consent for activities that rely on consent. You can also request deletion when information is no longer required, subject to legal allowances.

How to make a request
Email privacy@learningbull.ca with the subject Data Request and include the email address linked to your account or subscription along with a description of what you need. We may ask for verification before acting on the request. We aim to respond within 30 days and will explain any extension permitted by law.

Québec residents
If you live in Québec, you may have additional rights under modernized provincial law, including transparency around any automated decision systems if used. Write Law 25 in the subject line and we will provide information relevant to your request.

Children’s privacy

Our services are designed for adults and for students who use them with parental guidance. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact privacy@learningbull.ca and we will take appropriate action.

Data sources and third-party links

Our journalism and tools draw on filings, company reports, exchanges, Statistics Canada, and licensed vendors. Each story cites sources adjacent to the relevant claim or in a sources box. Links to third-party sites are provided for convenience. We are not responsible for their content or policies.

Changes to this policy

We revise this Privacy Policy when our practices or the law change. We post updates here and adjust the effective date at the top. Continued use of our services after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
