Québec public health officials broadened a consumer warning on Saturday to cover pistachio powder sold by Ô Nature in Montreal, after an earlier alert targeting the shop’s raw, shelled pistachios.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food said the products may be contaminated with Salmonella and should not be eaten.
The updated notice lists “Pistaches crues naturelles sans écales” in 80-gram and 250-gram packs, as well as a 50-gram “poudre de pistache,” all sold at the retailer’s Avenue du Mont-Royal East location.
The items carry best-before dates in January 2027 for the nuts and November 2026 or November 2027 for the powder.
The nuts were sold through Sept. 18, and the powder through Sept. 27, according to the ministry’s statement.
Ô Nature is recalling the products and advising customers to discard them or return them to the point of purchase.
The advisory follows a wave of federal recalls tied to an ongoing national probe of Salmonella infections that has swept in a variety of pistachio brands and pistachio-containing foods.
Canada’s food inspection agency continues to update the list of affected products as its market investigation unfolds.
The public health investigation has recorded 105 lab-confirmed illnesses across multiple provinces as of Sept. 24, with most cases in Québec and Ontario.
Sixteen hospitalizations have been reported and no deaths. Federal officials say outbreak strains were detected in recalled pistachios and in chocolate bars containing pistachios, and caution that additional sources could be identified as testing continues.
Check your pantry for the specific Ô Nature items and any other recalled pistachio products, do not consume them, and when in doubt contact the retailer.
Health authorities also remind people that Salmonella contamination is not visible and that symptoms can begin six to 72 hours after eating a tainted product, ranging from fever and stomach cramps to diarrhea.
Young children, older adults, pregnant people, and those with weakened immune systems face higher risks of severe illness.
